چکیده

In most of the graphics and design systems shape modification of free form surfaces is based on control point adjustment. Although this technique may work well, it is not sufficiently intuitive for a creative designer. Maintaining shape and design constraints can also be difficult. We propose a technique which is suitable to intuitively modify the shape of a parametric B-spline surface by embedding a predefined characteristic curve. Shape modification is performed by using a genetic algorithm. Maintaining smoothness of the resulting surface is discussed and experimental results are presented.

Constrained Object Reconstruction Incorporating Free-form Surfaces

This paper addresses the problem of integrating free-form surfaces in a constrained object reconstruction. The objects of interest here have both simple shaped surfaces (e.g. planes and quadrics) and free-from surfaces. The goal is to ensure a global optimization of the object shape where neighbourhood relationships between free-from surfaces and analytic surfaces are also satissed. The scheme ...

3-D Surface Segmentation of Free-Form Objects Using Implicit Algebraic Surfaces

This paper describes a new technique for free-form object segmentation from a single arbitrary-viewed range image. The aim is to derive a surface description of objects that may vary in shape and complexity without any restriction on the type of surfaces on the object. We propose a surface representation scheme that uses edge information to built a surface description using algebraic implicit s...

Constraint Modeling for Curves and Surfaces in CAGD

Even if Computer-Aided Geometric Design modelers are now based on powerful mathematical models for curves and surfaces, there are important needs for tools to create, analyze and modify these objects. Designing product shapes with free-form curves and surfaces is still a tedious task and modifying the shape obtained is even more difficult and, most of the time, needs recreating a part up to the...

COSMOS - A Representation Scheme for 3D Free-Form Objects

We address the problem of representing and recognizing 3D free-form objects when 1) the object viewpoint is arbitrary, 2) the objects may vary in shape and complexity, and 3) no restrictive assumptions are made about the types of surfaces on the object. We assume that a range image of a scene is available, containing a view of a rigid 3D object without occlusion. We propose a new and general su...
